General Description
This scholarship was established in honor of Sandra Mason's 25 years of service as the executive director of the Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation. The Sandra A. Mason Scholarship Award recognizes an outstanding student or students with a connection to BASC who has demonstrated commitment and potential for excellence while attending The College at Brockport and beyond.
What is unique to this award is that it is defined only for relatives of a current or former BASC employee. This award is also extended to relatives of those staff members who are employed by departments that are managed by BASC, including Parking and the College Bookstore.
This is an outstanding opportunity for our current and former employees to support a relative who is currently a College at Brockport student or will be in the Fall 2008. We encourage such persons to apply for this prestigious award. The following details outline the eligibility criteria for this award. Criteria
- Applicant must be a blood, spousal or "context" relative of a person who works or worked for the BASC (Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation) or FSA (Faculty Student Association) for at least two years. "Context" is defined as someone who resides in the home of a current or former employee (such as a stepchild).
- Applicant must have been accepted as an undergraduate student into The College at Brockport as a regular admit freshman or transfer student, or be a current undergraduate student with a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
- Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student taking at least 12 credit hours.
Number and Scheduling of Award
- The award is in the form of an educational expense grant, which will be given to one or more eligible students each year. The award will be presented at the campus' annual Honors and Awards Ceremony.
- The award will be credited to the student's bill during the semester(s) following receipt of the award. The recipient must use this award for educational expenses at The College at Brockport and may not receive the award in cash.
Selection Process
- Applicants must submit an application packet. Please refer to the checklist below.
- The selection committee will consist each year of the BASC Senior Staff. The Senior Staff reserves the right to grant such scholarship.
- The selection committee will select recipients based upon the criteria and the timeline set annually by the College.
Application packet checklist
- All applications must be typed.
- All applications should include a cover sheet including the following information:
- Name
- Banner # (for current College at Brockport student only)
- Campus/local address and phone numbers
- E-mail
- Academic Major
- Class year, credits earned, and cumulative GPA (for current College at Brockport students only)
- Name of the employee who is currently employed or was employed by BASC or FSA, including the unit of employment.
- Candidate's relationship to BASC/FSA employee.
- An essay, of no more than two typewritten pages indicating the reason why the candidate feels they are deserving of this scholarship. Reasons may include but are not limited to financial need, academic excellence, demonstrated leadership qualities or demonstrated community service.
- At least two, but no more than three, letters of recommendation.
